Steps taken so far:
1) Mark & reward any and all engagement with the muzzle (sniffing, licking, nudging, looking)
2) Nose in muzzle. Mark and reward the nose in muzzle as your dog offers up this behavior.
3) Duration of nose in the muzzle. Slowly lengthen the time the nose is in the muzzle. Muzzle between the knee technique is my go-to. Okay to feed treats through the muzzle to lengthen duration, but make sure to try to remove the lure ASAP so that your dog doesn’t rely on seeing that treat.
**you can also work with some pb, wet food or yogurt spread on the inside to encourage duration**
4) Strap movement. Pet under chin, move the straps on each side, gradually moving towards buckling the muzzle, unbuckle + treat.
Isis and I struggled a bit. That duration was tough. We would get a few seconds here and there but not consistently. To be fair, I wasn’t consistent enough + feeling a little pressure to make this video perfect. Taking a step back to meet Isis where she’s at rather than where I was hoping she would be ✌🏼
Also, stick around to the end to see my naughty nadia’s guest appearance and how much she loves her @bumas muzzle 💜
