I am a HUGE advocate for muzzle training. In fact, I believe that ALL dogs should learn how to wear a muzzle, even if they will never need one!
You NEVER know if your dog will need to wear a muzzle in their life. Whether at the vet, groomer, or lashing out in pain, your dog might be put into a muzzle without being prepared and that can be a traumatizing event.
Teaching your dog to wear a muzzle can be a fun thing for you to do with your dog, and you might even find that it helps you feel more confident about your dog.
When I trained Tucker to wear his muzzle on off leash hikes, I was no longer constantly on edge if another dog was going to rush up to him and bother him. I knew that I could call my dog away and if anything happened, he wouldn't be the reason for anyone getting hurt.
If your dog struggles with reactivity, you may find that utilizing a muzzle gives you the confidence and comfort to be able to address your dog's behavior head on without worrying IF something might happen.
I personally don't wait until dogs are a "bite risk" to muzzle train. I train even my service dog how to wear a muzzle and I utilize a muzzle with dogs who aren't risks at all, so that they never become one.
